Floral table runners make attractive accents for a summer table setting. Layer your tablecloths with floral runners or overlays to create a pretty look for summer. Crisp white runners with floral accents are the perfect accessories for summer tablecloths, especially those with garden motifs. Here's how you can make your own floral table runners.
Preparing the Fabric Select your material and determine the dimensions of the finished runners. The table runners should be one-third the width of your table, and a foot longer than its length, so that each end hangs for six inches past the table edge. Add an extra inch and a half to all measurements to ensure sufficient material for the seams.
Fold the edges of the fabric and pin them in place to create the seams. Iron over the folded edges with a hot iron to set the fold. Place iron-on adhesive strips underneath each of the folds and iron once again to lock the folds in their place.
Crafting Felt Flower Trimmings You'll need sheets of felt in colors of your choice, a hot glue gun and a pair of scissors. Use the scissors to cut out two-inch wide felt circles. Add a drop of hot glue to the center of a felt circle, and fold the piece in half. Add another drop to the middle of your folded circle and fold once again to create a petal.
Use a felt circle as the base of your flower. Glue the petals to the base to complete your flower. You need eight to nine petals for each flower. Choose petals of the same shade or combine different colored ones to create flowers with a pretty, rainbow effect.
Putting the Trim Together Use several of these felt flowers to add a floral trim to your table runner. Create a colorful flower border and add extra felt blossoms at the corners to create an elegant yet cheerful summer table effect.
Floral table runners work especially well with tablecloths with botanical or other natural motifs, which celebrate the beauty of summer. Experiment with different floral arrangements and colors to craft attractive and timeless table settings.
