• Bishop Claims Gays Are 'Trying To Recruit' Children, Wants To 'Steal Back' Rainbow

"We need to steal back the rainbow. We can't let the gays have it." So proclaims Bishop Harry Jackson, who spoke at Glenn Beck's "Under God Indivisible" Conference in Arlington, Texas. As Right Wing Watch reports, Jackson is no stranger to anti-gay declarations, having previously claimed that gay rights advocates are trying to recruit young people "just like during the times of Hitler." Read the full story here.

  • Chick-Fil-A Has 'Record-Setting Day' While Embroiled In Anti-Gay Controversy

Mike Huckabee is probably pretty happy right now. Chick-fil-A, the chicken restaurant under fire for its president's public comments against same-sex marriage, announced it set new sales records on Wednesday, or as Huckabee renamed it, "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day." "While we don't release exact sales numbers, we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day," said Chick-fil-A's executive vice president of marketing, Steve Robinson, in a statement. Read the full story here.

  • Missouri Lesbian Allegedly Attacked By Teen Neighbors For Being Gay

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Three children from the same family are in juvenile custody after allegedly attacking a Missouri woman, and the victim believes she was targeted because she is gay. "Once I was down, it was pure chaos," Terry said, describing being repeatedly kicked and hit. Lange called 911, then ran out to help free Terry from the fight. "They were kicking, stomping and beating the hell out of her," neighbor Mima Poole said. Terry said she may need eye surgery and still suffers from bruising, nausea and dizziness. Read the full story here.

  • Some Of The Worst Places In The World For LGBT Travlers

Usually, when you read my posts (thank you), I'm telling you about some pretty fabulous places. The great things about my job isn't that I get to travel and do what I love to do, but also see first hand how a place puts its best face forward. But some places don't, particularly if you are, like me, a gay traveler. Gay Americans, (and Canadians, French, Swedes, etc.) tend to forget that we live in countries that, by and large, are exceptions to the rule when it comes to gay-friendly environments, and with this article, I am actually going to recommend places that gay travelers not visit. Don't go to them, don't support them, and most of all, don't give them your tourist dollars. See the list here.

  • Larry Craig: Trip To Airport Bathroom Where Arrest Took Place Was 'Official' Business

BOISE, Idaho -- Former Republican U.S. Sen. Larry Craig aims to fend off a federal election lawsuit against him by arguing his infamous June 11, 2007, Minneapolis airport bathroom visit that ended in his sex-sting arrest was part of his official Senate business. Craig is hoping to avoid repaying $217,000 in campaign funds the Federal Election Commission claims he misused to defend himself. Read the full story here.

  • Major Wendy's Franchise Owner Signals Support For Chick-Fil-A

A major Wendy's franchise owner wants Chick-fil-A, the fast-food chicken chain embroiled in an blowup over its CEO's anti-gay comments, to know it's not alone. Signs at a number of Wendy's franchises in the Carolinas read, 'WE STAND WITH CHICK FIL A' on Wednesday, according to photos submitted to Reddit. The signs have since been removed. Jim Furman, CEO of Wendy's franchise Tar Heel Capital in the Carolinas, one of the largest Wendy's franchises worldwide, told WBTV that the company decided to post the message. He said the signs were later taken down because Wendy's "felt it was time to go back to their marketing message." Wendy's pushed back on Twitter, saying that an independent franchisee posted the signs and that the burger chain proudly serves all customers. Read the full story here.

  • GOP official: DOMA Defense Is Our 'Responsibility'

WASHINGTON -- House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) signaled Wednesday that despite recent setbacks, House Republican leaders will keep spending taxpayer dollars to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court. McCarthy, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) have been defending the federal ban on same-sex marriage since March 2011, when Attorney General Eric Holder deemed it unconstitutional and stopped defending it. They hired outside counsel to defend the law on behalf of the House of Representatives and, so far, have spent at least $742,000 doing so. But as of Tuesday, they marked their fifth consecutive loss in federal court when a Connecticut judge threw out the law as unconstitutional. Despite the setbacks, McCarthy said he and other House Republican leaders have a duty to uphold current law. Read the full story here.

  • Sarah Palin: Chick-Fil-A President Getting 'Crucified,' Boycott Has 'Chilling Effect' On First Amendment

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) repeated her support for fast-food chain Chick-fil-A and its president on Tuesday. In an interview on Fox News, Palin defended Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy's decision to publicly express his anti-gay marriage views and claimed that the resulting backlash against the company was an affront to free speech. "Well, that calling for the boycott is a real -- has a chilling effect on our 1st Amendment rights," Palin told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren. "And the owner of the Chick-fil-A business had merely voiced his personal opinion about supporting traditional definition of marriage, one boy, one girl, falling in love, getting married. And having voiced support for kind of that cornerstone of all civilization and all religions since the beginning of time, he then basically [is] getting crucified." Read the full story here.

  • Anti-Gay Pastor, Slams Jim Henson Company For Nixing Chick-Fil-A Toy Deal

A right-wing pastor and radio host slammed the Jim Henson Company for "taking the sodomy route" by severing a planned kids' meal partnership with Chick-fil-A over the restaurant chain's proclaimed anti-gay stance. As Right Wing Watch reports, Kevin Swanson of Generations with Vision -- who expressed nostalgia for a time when Christians "brought the death penalty upon homosexuality" -- spoke at length about the backlash against the Atlanta-based fast food chain. "A Christian perspective ultimately brought the death penalty upon homosexuality between roughly 350 AD and roughly 1850 or so, for about 1,500 years that form of life had pretty much been eliminated except here and there, it was in the closet, but it was almost unheard of for over 1,000 years, until recently," he proclaimed. "Of course, now you have a massive, massive increase in this kind of thing." Read the full story here.

  • New Jersey's Whitebriar Bed And Breakfast Slammed For Alleged Anti-Gay Facebook Post

A New Jersey-based bed and breakfast is taking the heat for allegedly penning a homophobic Facebook message to a local lesbian disappointed with the inn's proclaimed support of Chick-fil-A. As Jeremy Hooper of Good As You originally reported, Joianne Fraschilla took to Facebook to express her frustration with a sign displayed on the lawn of the Whitebriar Bed and Breakfast in Edgewater Park, which promoted "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day," designated by former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee as Aug. 1. "This is somewhere my son loves to pass by and we have been excited to visit," Fraschilla, who is openly gay, wrote. "I'm sad to see a local business anti LGBT marriage." She likely wasn't prepared for the vicious, long-winded response her post received from Whitebriar Bed and Breakfast (called "Camp Whitebriar -- animals, organic gardens, Cooking from scratch & swimming" on Facebook). Read the full story here.

  • Pat Robertson: Democrats' Support For Gay Marriage Is Political 'Death Wish'

Right-wing televangelist Pat Robertson thinks Democrats are committing political suicide with their decision to stand up for the civil rights of the LGBT community. Speaking on his television program on Tuesday, Robertson said the Democratic Party has a "death wish" in backing marriage equality as part of its official platform, which will be unveiled at this summer's Democratic National Convention. "For the Democrats to go out on that limb, it just seems like to me that they are further alienating themselves from the mainstream of America," Robertson said. "If that's what they want to do, fine, but it will mean the death knell of their party, it seems like to me, and of course that's what they're doing but maybe they have a death wish." Read the full story here.

  • Denver Baker Who Refused Wedding Cake To Gay Couple Defends His Stance

The owner of a Colorado-based bakery that denied a wedding cake to an engaged gay couple says he'd sooner shutter his business than "compromise" his beliefs. Jack Phillips, the owner of Lakewood's Masterpiece Cakeshop, told local CBS affilate KCNC-TV that he has no problem with lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) customers or staff members -- but nonetheless does not support gay marriage. "If it came to that point, we would close down the bakery before we would compromise our beliefs, so that may be what it comes to," Phillips said. "We'll see." Read the full story here.
